Customizing Confluence templates for Gliffy diagrams

Note: This page applies to both Confluence Cloud and Confluence Data Center.

Users with Confluence admin rights can also create Global Confluence Blueprints and Templates. For Cloud, you can only add an existing Gliffy diagram. For Data Center, you can also select the Default Blank Template that comes with Gliffy.

When users create a page from the template, the Gliffy diagram that you select will appear by default.

For Confluence Cloud, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the space where you want the template to appear.

  2. Select Space settings > Look and feel > Templates.

  3. Click Create New Template. A new Confluence page opens.

  4. Name your page template and add a description.

  5. From the Insert more content menu, click Gliffy Diagram.

From here, you can only search for an existing diagram. You cannot create or edit a Gliffy diagram within a template.

  6. Select the Gliffy diagram to insert in the template, check the Link to Original Diagram box and click Insert Diagram.

    Important:
When you select an existing diagram to be added to your template, that original diagram will be updated every time someone uses the template to create a page and then edits the diagram.
The changes will display on every diagram created from the template, because the diagram created on the template is just a link to the original diagram.

  7. In the Confluence page, click Save.

  8. To remove or edit a space template, click the Edit or Delete.

For Confluence Data Center, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the space where you want the template to appear.

  2. Select Space tools > Content tools.

  3. Click Create New Template. A new Confluence page opens.

  4. Name your page template and add a description.

  5. From the Insert more content menu, click Gliffy Diagram.

From here, you can search for an existing diagram or select the Default Blank Template that comes with Gliffy. You cannot create or edit a Gliffy diagram within a template.

  6. Select the Gliffy diagram to insert in the template and click Insert Diagram.

    Important:
When you select an existing diagram to be added to your template, that original diagram will be updated every time someone uses the template to create a page and then edits the diagram.
The changes will display on every diagram created from the template, because the diagram created on the template is just a link to the original diagram.
If you want to avoid that, use the Default Blank Template instead of an existing diagram as a template.

  7. In the Confluence page, click Save.

  8. To remove or edit a space template, click the Edit or Delete.
