Manage layers
For more flexibility when drawing complex diagrams, you can add layers and assign objects to layers. By specifying the order of layers, you can move objects to the foreground or background. You can also hide layers, duplicate layers, and take other actions.
You can also create Dynamic layers.
Add a new layer
. The Layers pane opens.
At the bottom of the Layers pane, click the Add Layers button . The new layer is inserted above the other layers.
Work with layers
You can add objects to layers and move objects between layers. You can also rename, reorganize, hide, and duplicate layers.
Add an object to a layer |
Select the layer and then insert the object in your diagram. The new object is automatically added to the selected layer. When you click an object in your diagram, the layer it belongs to is highlighted in the Layers pane.

Move an object from one layer to another |
Right-click the object, click Send To, and click the name of the layer. |
Rename a layer | Double-click the layer name, type the new name, and press Enter. |
Change the order of a layer | Click the layer selector icon ![]() |
Hide a layer | Select the layer and click the Visible button ![]() |

Click the Link layer button |
Lock a layer |
Click the lock button |
Duplicate a layer | Select the layer, and at the bottom of the Layers pane, click the Duplicate button |
