Gliffy AI FAQ
Welcome to the Gliffy AI FAQ! Below you'll find answers to common questions about our “Create with AI” feature, including how it works, privacy considerations, and administrative controls.
General AI Functionality
Gliffy’s “Create with AI” feature uses generative AI from OpenAI to create diagrams from text descriptions.
Gliffy uses OpenAI as its AI provider for the “Create with AI” feature.
Enter a text description of the diagram you want. The AI generates a template diagram for you. You can optionally refine this template in edit mode using mermaid syntax (via the Edit Diagram option). Once you click Finish Editing, the diagram becomes a standard Gliffy diagram.
Not currently. Each prompt creates a new template diagram. For refinements, you can either:
-
Adjust the template in the Mermaid editor before finishing, or
-
Generate a new diagram with a new prompt.
No. It’s designed to give you a quick template that saves time. You can refine or regenerate results as needed.
Currently, the AI feature supports following diagram types:
-
Flowcharts
-
UML Sequence diagrams
-
Class Diagrams
There are currently no hard limits for AI diagram generation. You can create as many diagrams as you need.
No. The AI feature is optional. You can always start diagrams manually, just as before.
No. The AI feature runs as a lightweight process. It generates diagrams quickly and does not affect the performance of Gliffy or your Confluence instance.
Gliffy uses a customized OpenAI-based gpt-4o-mini model, optimized via model distillation for Gliffy-specific tasks.
AI Features and Data Privacy
No. Gliffy does not retain or use customer inputs (including prompts or diagram content) to train, fine-tune, or improve AI models. This is enforced through internal controls and governance under our ISO/IEC 42001-certified AI management system.
Currently, Gliffy does not offer contractual Zero Data Retention (ZDR) guarantees or dedicated enterprise data isolation for AI processing. However, AI risks and data handling are governed under our ISO/IEC 42001 AI management system.
When a user uses the “Create with AI” feature, the text prompt entered by the user is sent to Gliffy’s AI provider (OpenAI) solely for the purpose of generating the diagram.
Gliffy uses an enterprise OpenAI account, and data sent to OpenAI is not used for training or improving AI models. No other Atlassian or customer data is shared.
Gliffy’s AI features do not collect or process user data or diagrams outside of the Atlassian Cloud environment.
Gliffy ensures that all AI related processing done in Gliffy's cloud infrastructure and AI-generated diagrams are stored within the Atlassian Cloud infrastructure. No data is shared with third-party services, and no external retention or transmission occurs.
Admin Controls
Yes. Confluence Admins can disable AI functionality. You can view details on how to do this here: Configure Gliffy on Confluence Cloud
Compliance & Certifications
Yes. Gliffy is SOC 2 Type II certified for security controls. In addition, Gliffy’s AI feature is covered under ISO/IEC 42001 certification, which focuses on AI governance and risk management.
AI Safety & Reliability
Gliffy’s backend prompts are designed to:
-
Encourage high-quality diagram generation
-
Prevent unethical or offensive content
However, we recommend using AI-generated content with caution, as generative models may still produce inaccurate or biased outputs.
